Woodpecker

Woodpeckers nested in this tree just outside my office window.

It was fun to watch events unfold as the parents hollowed out their nest then cared for the eggs and fed and raised the babies.

They were very vocal birds, calling out loudly to each other or shrieking at intruders. A squirrel tried to get in the nest one day and they drove him off with a great deal of noise.
