Kayaking Crane Creek the First Time

I bought my kayak in May, and made my first paddle on Crane Creek. I launched at first light from the boat ramps at the Front Street park, next to the Melbourne Causeway.

Bird on Crane Creek

I passed the bird rookery and paddled through the marina and on into the creek.

Making my way past the large open area with houses along the edge, I found a couple of still, quiet coves that were completely secluded and unbelievably beautiful in the morning sunlight.

Shady areas make kayaking on hot days more comfortable.

A variety of trees and plants overhang the creek, reflecting in the still water.

I didn't go too far on my first trip, wanting to build up my paddling muscles without overdoing it. It was a perfect shake-down cruise.

Crane Creek

I didn't have a real manatee encounter that day, only enticing flashes of tail and little trails of bubbles. That was ok, though, it had still been one of the best days of my life and I was totally hooked on kayaking!
