Paddle Boats

KayakPaddle boats, such as canoes and kayaks, have their advantages in the marsh. For one thing they are easily transported from one body of water to another, usually tied on the top of a car. This gives one the opportunity to explore diverse areas.

In our area we have the St. Johns River, the Indian River (about 8 miles east of the St. Johns), lots of marshland, and various creeks - like the one that runs thru the Turkey Creek Sanctuary. (That is a beautiful ride, take it if you get a chance!)

Kayak with Trolling MotorThis innovative gentleman attached a trolling motor to his kayak enabling him to ride in comfort without having to paddle.

This kind of crosses the line between paddle boat and motor boat, but we see all sorts of creative things on the river!

Gator eating kayakKayaks and canoes also have the advantage of being able to go in shallow waters that are inaccessible to larger boats, and they certainly get a good close look at the scenery.

Of course, there are disadvantages, too. Sometimes you don't really want a close look.

Rowboat
Rowboats can be used, too, though they are more work. But as you can see, it's not a bad way to spend a morning!
