Great White Egret

Great White Egret
The Great White is about 41 inches tall with a 55 inch wingspan. Like the Snowy Egret it was once hunted nearly to extinction for its plumage.

The Great White Egret (also Great Snowy Egret) is like the Great Blue Heron in size and hunting habits. Great White Egret
This bird took some time out to stand on the old bridge and just look around.

Great White Egret flying
The bright white Egret stands out sharply against the greenery of the marsh, but blends in with the clouds when seen against the blue sky.

I love to watch a white Egret flying overhead - the white wings against the blue sky, the sun shining through a lacy pattern of feathers, the play of wing against wind....makes me wish I could be up there flying with them!
