The Green Heron is a small heron, with much the same coloring of the Great Blue and the Little Blue herons, but with shorter neck and legs.

This bird has a really cool crest on his head which he raises while fluffing out his neck and flicking his tail when excited. It looks beautiful, but of course they only do it when I don't have my camera pointed at them.

The Green Heron does not like to fly a lot. It lives in areas of tall plants, like cattails and will make short flights in and out of them, but pretty much sticks to its own backyard and close to the ground.
